Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has urged the club's supporters to treat former player Robin van Persie with the respect he deserves when the Gunners meet Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The fixture marks the first opportunity for the Netherlands international to play against his former club, and Wenger has called on the travelling support to give him a good reception.
"I hope it is a respectful reception because he has played for us for eight years, he has done very well for us. You want him to be respected," Wenger told reporters. "We campaign against discrimination, it was still the case last week so why should it not be the case this week?
"I don't know what the fans will do, I think he will get the reception I hope for."
The 29-year-old striker enjoyed an eight-year stay at Arsenal before moving to Manchester United for 24 million pounds in August. He has scored nine goals in his first 12 games for his new club a year after winning the Premier League's Golden Boot with a 30-goal campaign.
